Street Style: Gabi of Young, Fat & Fabulous

This past weekend over brunch, a group of friends and I were discussing fashion (no surprise there) the subject evolved to fashion blogs and we started naming our favorites. We all had our iPhones, Driods and Blackberrys out so we quickly started googling sites to view each other's recommendations. Hands down the unanimous winner was Young, Fat & Fabulous. If you don't know, please get to know. Gabi Gregg is the blog's savvy and fashion forward author. Not only has she been featured on Vogue Italia's site, she's also MTV's Twitter correspondant. Don't sleep on this talent. Her style choices are to die for and she proves time-and-time again that women can look fabulous at any size! I've gotten so many ideas from her already. Solange, Estelle and Chrisette Michele all recently wore turban inspired head wraps to red carpet events.

So how many of you have tried wearing a turban-inspired head wrap? I'm not talking about the time you made a quick run to the grocery store and your hair was deep conditioning under there. I mean to an event where you had to dress up. It takes confidence to pull off but the celebrities above have mastered the look. Style Spotlight: Solange

Solange has evolved into her own. Now I will admit that I've been hard on her style choices in the past but Ms. Knowles has developed a truly unique style. She had me convinced after she debuted her shaved head... how many of us could have done the same thing whilst being in the public eye? As her hair has grown some, her style choices are become even more pronounced. From the bright colors, layered textures and unique accessories, Solange is a style icon in the making. Apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks so. WWD's style magazine put Solange, Selita Ebanks and Cassie on their latest cover and Carol's Daughter named them their newest spokes persons. And I know I'm not the only one who loved her album "Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams." I still listen to Sandcastle Disco.

Ladies please forgive me. I had a crazy, albeit it, life changing year in 2010. I bought a condo, found a new job and processed a green card. Needless to say it became difficult to blog while all this was going on. But I'm bizzack! I was reading my blog the other day and was so disappointed with myself for letting it go. Even if no one else read it, I'd still enjoying clicking through numerous sites to find the best clothes to bring a vision into fruition. Be patient with me as I'm still pulling together ideas, but now that I have far less responsibilities, I know I'll be back to normal in no time! Fashion: District

I know it's been a minute since my last post but I wanted to quickly shout out this great event taking place in the next two weeks. Apparently, ReadysetDC has hosted two successful fashion shows already. This is their third installment. The evening will include a full-length runway show and pop-up shopsand musical performances. This season’s designers include; ARTAYA, Clockwise Clothing, Derringer Friday, DURKL, Ginger Root Design, Hugh & Crye and SAINTCHiC. Check out the video below with footage of previous events.

The little black dress is so passé. Trust me. Color can be chic too. Red cocktail dresses were the weapon of choice for the four celebrities above. Pair with a classic black belt and neutral heels so your dress can do all the talking. See below for hints on how to incorporate the simple yet eye-catching look into your wardrobe.

Cabezas de primavera

Descubrí las tendencias y encontrá la que mejor va con vos. Los lacios con las puntas desflecadas, las ondas muy suaves y los recogidos sutiles. ¿El nuevo protagonista? El flequillo súper largo sobre los ojos. En tonos, se imponen los cobrizos, las puntas desteñidas y los eternos rubios.

Largo y desmechado

Dentro de ese estilo, la onda este año marca los cortes desflecados y no los carrés. Para conseguir un look natural y súper de moda hacete un brushing utilizando un cepillo redondo y un secador. Alisá bien el pelo, pero dándole movimiento en las puntas: para eso marcalas bien con el cepillo. También se usa el flequillo largo: podés llevarlo para el costado o sobre las cejas. Los colores: los rojizos, los cobrizos y, como siempre, los reflejos rubios.

Recogido con ondas

El peinado medio recogido sirve tanto para el día como para una salida formal. Para lograrlo, primero marcá las ondas en zigzag con la tijera eléctrica, tomando el pelo sólo desde debajo de la oreja. Para el medio recogido, hacé la raya sobre un costado de la cabeza. Agarrá bastante cantidad de pelo, de la parte superior, de los laterales y por detrás de las orejas, y ajustalo con una hebilla por detrás. Esto hace que las ondas caigan en cascada y que se mantenga el largo natural. En tonos, lo más nuevo son las puntas más claras.

Look joven y natural

Para lograr un recogido natural, nada mejor que dos trencitas cosidas en la parte superior de la cabeza. Se empiezan desde la frente y se siguen hasta juntarse atrás. Desde allí, el pelo suelto y con ondas, suavemente marcadas con tijera. Los colores de esta temporada: iluminaciones rubias sobre bases castañas y las puntas desgastadas, como decoloradas por el sol.

Eternamente rubias

Para llevar el pelo ondulado suelto y verte prolija, podés alisar la parte cercana a las raíces y marcar las ondas con tijeras sólo desde las orejas hacia abajo. Hacete la raya a un costado, recogé el pelo de un lado, prendelo con un clip y escondelo con un mechón por encima. Las ondas son protagonistas este año, pero no muy marcadas. Los colores de esta temporada: los cobrizos y el rubio dorado.

El flequillo que viene

Es lo último en peinados: los flequillos. Es un flequillo bien tupido y entrecortado, para poder usarlo hacia el costado también y hacerlo desaparecer. Son flequillos largos y lacios por debajo de las cejas. El truco es desflecar el flequillo desde adentro, para que no quede recto, ni aburrido.
